Stolen Scooter

My scooter was locked up in my backyard on Chestnut Avenue in Hampden and sadly was stolen along with a bicycle last night.  It is a very
unique scooter  as seen below.  Please let me know if you see any scooter that looks like this- there are very very few this color- so it is most likely my scooter.  Also, the scooter had TN license plates, but I doubt those are still on the scooter at this point.

A ton of scooters got stolen in Hampden last night.

This is reposted from a friend: if you see any of the scooters mentioned below, send me an lj message and I'll pass along her phone number.

There was a Hampden raid on scooters last night and as a result at
least 7 Vintage scooters from my friends were stolen. There were
probably more stolen because it was a sweep and as the day goes by I
keep hearing of more and more taken last night.

If you can keep an eye out for: 1 Bajaj (flat black in color and looks
like a vintage Vespa) and a Lambretta TV 175 (vintage, white with
oxblood colored headset and side panels).

Also stolen were five out of my friends Scott and Libby's garage on
Falls Road. BUT THE THEIVES WERE CAUGHT!!!

Here is the news clip. It was about 6am this morning. You can see the
cop kicking the suspect on the ground!!!

Most all of these scoots are vintage and require shifting and a lot of
thieves don't know how to ride them so they will either load them up
on a truck or roll them away at first. I ran into Human Soup a month
or so ago and she was recanting a previous sweep where a bunch of
scooters in Hampden were stolen and an attempt to steal hers too.

Can you guys keep an eye out for people who definitely look like they
shouldn't own a vintage scooter? Like a kid on a vintage vehicle that
looks too old and valuable to be joy-ridden. Sometimes they're
abandoned too when they run out of gas or they seize the engine. Call
the police, or let me know and I will go retrieve it with a
truck--even if it's in the Ghetto, I will go get it.

There is a lot of money to be made on scooters at the moment because of the gas prices being as they are...

Wow, this is very interesting. It really sucks though, the scooter was my main transport to work. Luckily I had insurance, but I'm not sure I'll get close to enough $ to buy another one. Guess I'll be taking the bus.

OH! That's what the heliocopter noise was this morning. Also, there were a TON of teenaged kids hanging out on my street last night. Very unusual. I wonder if there is a connection?

the bastards... I swear if it ain't nailed down the little bastards will nick anything... and here in Baltimore, even if it is nailed down, they'll nick the nails too...

My car was vandalized just over a year ago in Bolton Hill. They did about $5,000 worth of damage and I had it for less than a month! Hadn't even made ONE payment on it!

When the officers came so I could file a police report for insurance purposes, they told me that someone's catalytic converter had been stolen from his car!!! So, in short, for me it could've been MUCH worse. :\

Should've clarified I'd be much angrier if they had taken that. Long story, but I had to pay for a new one in one of my old cars, so it would've been worse for me, personally!

I'm sorry about your scooter! That is so fucked up. Maybe try checking on craigslist or alerting nearby scooter shops in case those jerks try to re-sell them.

All I've seen on Craigslist for the past few months are cheap Chinese scoots. It would be interesting if Vespas, Bajajs, and Kymcos start making an appearance.

FYI Kymco is made in Taiwan and Bajaj is made in India.

Yes, but there is a big difference between a $3500 Kymco and a $1000 "cheap" Chinese scooter.

I'm not so sure. Kymco outsources a lot of their stuff to Chinese factories that make the cheap ones. Although Kymco started out making parts for Honda, so there's at least some history of quality.

At least Kymcos are sold by reputable dealers and come with an actual warranty. The cheapos I was referring to are those (literally) no-name 50ccs made to look like Silverwings, Burgmans, or Metropolitans.

that sucks. i'm in hampden too but haven't had any yard or other thefts since I've been here. hampden's becoming a scooter haven, and i've seen a few gatherings or something and there'll be like a million scooters parked on the avenue one night. i'll keep an eye out for yours if i see it around; did you report it to the police?

how was it locked up?

wow...sorry to hear that.

A couple of years back I had a moped stolen from my back yard...they cut through the fence and sawed through a 6 in porch beam. Stupidly I didn't have the engine number written down. The jack asses who stole it were only 2 blocks away and had painted it black in like 2 days time and were riding up and down the street.

Without the ID number the cops couldn't do anything about it. It wasn't worth a neighborhood war (which I would have lost) to get the damn thing back.

So yeah..moral. Engine Numbers.
